I say go but get your own room.  With that many people you could do two adjoining rooms and then you get your own next door.  It will be fine, but you need to accept this will be a 3 star trip overall (hotel, restaurants etc).

Try and keep up.  The problem is not that OP wants a room to herself - that's completely acceptable.  The problem is that she just.can't.see.herself having a good time at a hotel that only charges $300 per night.  Plus, having to deal with those low budget people . . .

Actually in my original post, I stated that I wanted to pay extra to upgrade.
