Thanks, all! DC would love to attend VCU.
OP, I remember those worries and thought DC's options would be much more limited than they were. ADHD and LDs were first diagnosed at the end of freshman year. DC had a very similar GPA trend as yours (but lower SAT scores). Weighted GPA entering senior year was 3.2-3.3. DC was involved in a couple of long-term ECs outside of school, some volunteer work, a summer internship, no leadership positions. DC wrote a great essay, and I suspect the counselor wrote an enthusiastic recommendation based on DC's academic improvement and course load. DC did not progress past year 3 of language instruction but took 8 APs (all humanities/arts). I encouraged DC to do everything possible to maximize the chance of admission -- apply EA, make lots of "contacts" (visit school before applying, sign up for meetings at high school, do an interview if possible, open emails from the school). DC was accepted at VCU, UMW, CNU & University of Vermont, with merit aid offered at 2 of those 4. Currently at VCU & loves it.
