As a European, I find your use of the term Socialist as an insult to be offensive. Why this hate-mongering? It's just one part of the political spectrum. Nearly every European country has a socialist party, and a communist party. The socialists are soft left, the communists are hard left. On the right there are the conservatives and extreme-right parties. While you could be suspicious of the extreme left or extreme-right, it doesn't make sense to not try to work with moderates of either side. So change your attitude please.
NP here. Sorry, friend. I find Socialism offensive. Our country was not founded on socialist principles.
No country was founded on Socialist principles. Yet the majority of worker protection laws, maternity and paternity leave, women's rights, extended or universal health coverage, subsidized day cares, the things that Americans envy about Europeans, and that are sorely lacking here, were enacted by socialist governments or coalition governments with the help of socialist parties. Socialism is merely the concept that the people have to help each other, instead of every man for himself. You demonstrate your ignorance of critical historical facts by finding this offensive. There is nothing offensive about any ideas of any party, except xenophobia demonstrated by a minority of extreme-right parties. You lack respect for democracy. Would you rather live in a dictatorship?
You make assumptions, friend. I do not envy these things. And, many other Americans think like me. There is nothing wrong with helping others. Nothing at all. But, I don’t believe it is government’s role to do that all the time. Doing so simply teaches people to rely on others instead of oneself. It dampens incentive. Not sure why you accuse me of lacking respect of democracy. Nothing is further from the truth. And, because I condemn socialism, you believe I want a dictatorship? You, my friend, have a lot to learn.
Thank you. I couldn't have stated this any better. My thoughts exactly.
