I don't mind and sometimes even am fond of dogs that I know (pets of my family and friends), but I really don't like strange dogs coming up to me. I walk to the bus stop in the morning right around the time when other people are walking their dogs, and I will walk in the street (no traffic at that time) rather than cross the path of dogs and their largely oblivious owners, who usually are staring at their phones. I don't have time to involuntarily make contact with a dog at that time. I don't want to be slobbered on, sniffed, or get dirty paws on my work clothes. So basically I'm asking dog owners to PAY MORE ATTENTION to what their dogs will do. It seems like a lot of people have dogs just because it's trendy, not because they really are "into" their dogs.
I owned a 100 lb husky (malamute size) and I have 2 small dogs now. Idk how any owner with a big dog can pay attention to their phone AND walk their dog. I havent seen it happen around me.
With a well trained dog who walks at a "heel". It's not rocket science.
Sure but even when a dog owner told their dog to stay they still jumped around or lunged at me or my dog. I think that a majority of people adopt rescues and don't adequately retrain them. Now if they gab on the phone as they walk their adopted dog that dog can easily lunge at my dog despite the owner saying, oh he never does this, he is trained blah blah blah.
