Mid-Atlantic English or Harvard Lockjaw (aka Yale Lockjaw).
Locust Valley Lockjaw I know tons of Northeastern born and bred boarding school alums and don't know any under age 70 who speak with the Hepburn/FDR/Kerry accent
Thank you. Yes, its the Locust Valley Lockjaw[b] and a very upper crust accent it is. If you have upper class family from the NE you will know it. It has mostly disappeared as it sounds affected in today's world but in the world my grandparents inhabited it very much identified the upper class. And, PPs are correct, the Kennedys were considered very low class back in that day and age. The patriarch, Joe, was a bootlegger, a criminal. He was absolutely lower class, an immigrant Irish upstart. Perfect example of an American family that achieved and climbed significantly. Sadly, they seem to be unable to avoid the stereotypical Irish maladies of addiction and excess even in the newest generations.
