They probably never should have gotten married but more because of their conflicting personalities & values than their age difference. Fwiw, my dad remarried a woman about the same age as my mother & they are still happily married nearly 20 years later. My mother remarried a guy closer to her age the day after her divorce from my dad was finalized &, while they are still married (as far as I know anyway; we have been estranged since I was 13), their marriage is/was highly dysfunctional & was tumultuous & filled with drama pretty much from day one.
