Yes, I have periods of high stress and periods that are pretty low-stress and it's mostly interesting and a mix of litigation and advice matters.  I'm in State govt, not federal, if that matters?[/quote]

But would like to mention that I wish I was paid a little more.  Getting raises in state govt seems impossible unless you switch roles. We never get COLAs or step increases!  That can be really frustrating, but I am reluctant to give up the things I do like about my job-- the work, my colleagues, work/life balance, just for more money.  [/quote]

Sorry, I think we do.  I didn't post here, except in response to you loving your gov't job.  Attorneys at our agency start at GS-10/11 out of law school and can "quickly" move up to GS-15 if they meet certain performance standards, etc.  Most attorneys coming in from outside seem to start at GS-14/15.
