I know that each schools scores are based on test results & NOT the opinions or reviews of the parents (as some seem to think the scores are correlated by). So how does: Walter Johnson score an 8 BCC score a 7 Churchill score a 6 and Whitman score a 4 out of 10?? The kids from Whitman are always bragging about how much money they have & they say they're "slumming it" when they hang out with kids from the other "W" schools & BCC (I've heard it myself & saw it written on social media). So how are these kids who are so well off, going to a school with a ranking of 4 on great schools?? Aren't the parents livid?
I haven't seen anyone bragging about money or pretend slumming it, and neither have my 3 kids at Whitman. The kids we see around are all very busy and have a lot going on for them, and too much to lose to muck it up with drugs, slip ups, misjudgment. They good kids, can't wait to see them continue to grow!
I agree. It sounds like there is Whitman envy on this board. My kids don't brag about money because we don't have much of it! I can say that my kids work their butts off at Whitman and have gotten amazing educations. As far as I am concerned the county can stick their PARCC tests up their asses.
I also agree. It is silly to suggest that Whitman students are bragging about slumming it with kids from other area schools. For among other reasons, lots of Whitman kids have less money than kids at other schools, particularly BCC. We wound up zoned for Whitman rather than BCC in large part because we could get more bang for our buck being a 5 minute drive from downtown Bethesda rather than being walkable. It is true that Whitman has fewer truly (not DCUM) middle-class and lower SES students than Whitman, but for students that are UMC/wealthy, many at BCC have equal or greater wealth than similar students at Whitman. My kids are younger, but the Whitman kids I have met in the neighborhood and through other things have generally been good, relatively grounded, kids. I have no doubt their are cocksure a$$holes at the school too, but that will be the case at any of these schools.
