A lot has changed in America, this is very real progress, but Chinese culture lags behind and their view of American progressivism is nothing more than incredulity stemming from their own ignorance and naivete about American culture and politics.  Here in America we likewise have rural American conservatives living in similar cultural time bubbles, out of touch and unaware of the changing tides in the rest of America.
