No offense and it's maybe because I live in a more "diverse" area but I don't really understand the whole distinction about biracial. And in the last couple of days there have been several threads about biracial kids, couples, etc. So don't know if someone is out there trolling. Unless it's a more homogeneous area, mixed ethnicities are pretty common and I don't think many people think much about it. Maybe in the past it was a big deal or if you're in a homogeneous area. In our little loop of homes for example we have multiple families of mixed ethnicities and of various combinations. The cutest/curious would probably be a couple close to retirement and mainly because it's not a common combination and you would think that it was frowned upon in their younger days. But for the rest, we don't even really think about it. So I kind of rolled my eyes too when seeing that comment about how previous poster's school has some/handful of students with mixed ethnicities. But didn't get a chance to write a snarky reply. But nowadays in this area I'd like to think that most people don't really think anything when they see an interracial couple (in regards to the other thread about a Bangladesh wife and European husband looking for a place to live) or a kid of mixed ethnicity. Yeah there are still bigots out there and will be dumb acts and comments and there are areas that are probably better to avoid. But for the most part think that interracial relationships are more common now and most people won't even bat an eye at them or their kids. I know not every place is like this and is one of the things I appreciate about the 495 area and choose to stay here.
I'm biracial and also happen to be interracially married. In general, I agree with you about this area and people not caring (at least not outwardly). But I also assume you're not biracial, because you'd be surprised what comments sometimes come my/our way, from people of various backgrounds. It's weird when it happens, because I tend to get comfortable and forget that people notice. But it does happen, and more often in certain communities than others. I've got some elderly neighbors that have said some really weird things, especially in this polarized political climate. Anyway, don't want to hijack this thread into another topic, but just wanted to give some validity to the OP's question.
