Is this really true? I always hear it, but both of my boys were highly verbal from a young age, and knew letters and colors well before 18 months. That is of course just an anecdote but it makes me wonder if it's a "you'll get sick if you go out in cold/damp weather" kind of old wives tale. (Now, we are having a hellacious time with potty training, so there is that.)[/quote]

It is true as a massive generalization. more girls than boys are verbal early but there are also many boys who are verbal earlyy and girls who are verbal later.[/quote]
