The local Fox station was at the meeting last night and they reported that there has been no increase in missing girls over the last few years. There is a new Commander who has made it a top priority to draw attention to the missing girls. The mewscaster said when the Commander recently took over there was only one missing teen reported on the MPD page when there were a number of teens missing. The same Commander is on Fox 5 now.
Posting more. Her name is Commander Dickerson and she said that the majority of the teens missing are teens who voluntarily leave home.
I have definitely noticed an uptick of news stations reporting missing kids. It seems as if every day there's one or two missing. Then I read the comments and people are really starting to get freaked out about it. They wonder if there's human trafficking, gangs, any single bad thing you can think of. I also don't see that the new stations announce when these kids have been found. I feel like this initiative is a double edge sword. There needs to be a better way to let the public know that there is no uptick in missing kids just a new initiative because people are panicking .
