OP, just be prepared that some parents are not going to be comfortable with a drop off at a movie theatre with that many kids and few adults. Who would take the kids to the bathroom? I would not want my child to go knowing you'd probably send them in the bathroom alone. I'd have no problem paying for myself (no siblings so its a non-issue) but not a chance I'd send my 8 year old alone.
I continually get surprised at the level of hovering other parents do. I also have an 8 year old daughter and she rides public transportation alone.
How sad you are too lazy to take your child where she needs to be. 8 is way to young.
My daughter bikes up to the playground about 1/4 mile away with her friends. They are all 7 and 8. Most 8 year olds ride public transportation alone in cities when they have to go to school. The reason you think your 8yr old is too young is because you have coddled her all her life and have not taught her to think and do things for herself in small increments until she is comfortable. My daughter went on a Field trip today. 1 teacher and 1 volunteer for 26 kids. Do your forbid your 8yr old to go on field trips?
I ride a city bus every day to school, along with an number of other families and schoolkids. I notice when kids start riding alone. They aren't eight years old. I've never seen a kid younger than fourth grade ride the city bus alone to our school. You may be entirely right that kids can do this, but in our community, they don't.
