I would be concerned if my DD got her period at 10. That is too early in my mind. But, things are changing and girls are entering puberty earlier and earlier. Just love your daughter and tell her it is normal.
I'm 40, started my period just before I turned 11 (ie. I was still 10) and was hardly the first girl in my group to get it. This is nit an example of "earlier and earlier". This is an example of normal.
Nothing like DCUM to illustrate ignorance. It was NOT normal. back when you were 11. Puberty is coming earlier and earlier for girls now. And it's worrisome to scientists. http://www.sciencealert.com/girls-are-going-through-puberty-earlier-than-ever-before-with-long-term-effects O http://www.newsweek.com/2015/02/06/puberty-comes-earlier-and-earlier-girls-301920.html
np, yes, 11 was in the range of normal.30 years ago. That is when both my mother and I got our periods. There is always a range. Perhaps you should check your condescending tone.
Check your facts. The idea that girls are reaching sexual adolescence earlier than ever before is nothing new - for years, researchers have noticed that women are getting their periods earlier and earlier - the average age for menstruation to start is now 13, compared to 16 or 17 at the turn of the last century. It's hormones and obesity, unfortunately.
Check your reading comprehension. Nobody is disputing that the average age of menarche has dropped. We are, however, saying that it has always been well within the range of normal for a girl to get her first period at 11.
