Wait till you DILs get old and become MiLs yourself.
First of all, I agree with the other posters who say it's the spouse's responsibility. Why is it the woman's job to have to come up with gift ideas every single year for the rest of the marriage? I am exhausted from having to think of every other gift (all the kids' presents, his 90 year old grandmother, his aunt/uncle's 50th wedding anniversary, hostess gift (for holiday parties we've attended) 4 school teachers, nanny, 5 house cleaners, the mailman, the kind neighbor who always remembers something for our kids, and all of my side of the family). Second of all, when I've made suggestions he says no, waits until the last minute and then in a panic ends up getting some crappy gift. Last year, I suggested some cheese for his parents from Dean and Deluca. It was very expensive cheese (I'd have been psyched if someone had sent us this gift basket), and he scoffed b/c of the price. He ordered it after he couldn't come up with anything. This year I suggested Kindles b/c they finally have Wi-Fi and I've seen their lap top plugged in by the kitchen counter. He rejected it and said he'd order a different cheese. (SIGH). No one wants cheese two years in a row. B/t/w earlier on in our marriage, I already picked out a Coach wallet, blue cashmere scarf, and Josh Groban tickets (she's a huge fan). I'm tapped out.
