He seems pretty optimistic about GA’s potential prospects for an “ECNL hat.”
Not sure about "players will search out ECNL" comment. My kid plays at a top GA club. To get ready for playoffs and ideally finals they've been playing (and beating) ECNL clubs. Every time this happens more ECNL players jump in on sessions during the week. Ive also noticed several ECNL parents that I haven't spoken with since our kids were young suddenly reaching out. From what I can see theres a group of parents that just chase whichever team is winning. I dont think GA or ECNL really matters if the team and club overall are known for winning.
lol...believable. ECNL be aware... better shutdown the ECNL since your parents are talking to GA parents about how "awesome" gA is and allegedly winning local scrimmages...
So pathetic. Unfortunately for you the tide is turning. People are tired of all the ECNL nonsense and are glad to have an alternative. I hope GA gets in touch with the players and parents that switch over and key into what they like and what can be done better.
ill start - stickers, magnets, socks and HATS at showcases to buy - stop taking so many teams watering down the league - more showcases - more showcases not coupled with champions cup or playoffs - work to get more college coaches to showcases to catch up with ECNL
I think ECNL has the hat market cornered no need to compete on that one. I dont understand how more showcases translates into anything other than more costs for parents. Most colleges don't have a recruitment team that attends more than two or three events. Wouldn't it be better for recruiters to have a single event with all the top teams / players? If I was a recruiter this is what id want.
More showcases doesn't mean teams go to all of them - increasing cost. it means the seven to eight ECNL has can be spread our regionally and teams choose which to go to limiting travel cost. When GA only has three showcases (one being playoffs that everyone cant choose to go to) and two are in California, it makes travel costs balloon for both players and college coaches (majority of which are in eastern half of the united states).
Im rereading trying to understand. You're also saying that if theres more showcases theres more regional showcases for clubs to choose from. But, this will rarely happen. Most clubs will choose to do local showcases the same way recruiters will choose to stay local. In the end all more local showcases does is provide a way for terrible ECNL teams to look better because they're only playing local clubs and not getting stomped on by CA and TX teams.
I think you just hit the nail on the head. GA has less showcase type events and they're mostly focused on highlighting top national clubs and players. ECNL has more showcases that are regionally focused. This allows poor Clubs and teams to look better because they're not competing nationally. Parents of poor clubs probably like not needing to compete nationally at events for visability. Their kid gets highlighted to local colleges who arent that good. The recruiters likely know these arent top players. But their parents have money and are willing to spend it. A small quarter scholorship to a kid who patents are paying for tuition either way gives them something to talk about at the golf club. Recruiters arent always looking for scholorship talent.
This might also explain why GA gets commits largely from their top teams but ECNL gets commits from their mid-tier teams too.
Shows that "mid-tier" colleges likely dont really care about winning. If they did they'd be looking though all the different leagues for talent. These are probably the expensive private college type schools. Its more about finding parents that can pay than players that can play.
