BREAKING: College Soccer Gets Full-Year Seasons & Pro Pathways! Longer seasons, smarter regional matchups, and closer ties to pro and national programs are coming. Men's soccer will run August-April with a winter break, while women will get a new elite spring competition. Modernized eligibility and transfer rules give players more flexibility, all aimed at healthier, more competitive, and pro-ready soccer.
I need to see the small print but seems pretty nice
Here's the thread that talks about this - none of it's guaranteed. It was all recommendations that were part of the NextGen Soccer Committee report. We'll see what sticks coming out of it. https://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/1297103.page
Since colleges are now paying players. Pro teams should be paying colleges for the development of players turning pro. Do this and suddenly college soccer is self funding. ;-)
They want more college players going pro not fewer.
Pro teams need to get players somewhere. Paying colleges for developing talent might seem weird at first but what it will do is incentivize colleges to develop players to the highest level the way pro trams want them to be. When this occurs college teams and coaches that participate in developing to the highest level are rewarded for their efforts. What will happen is when theres money involved the end product will be a much higher level.
No money to pay. Won't work.
Now that college is paying players how long do you think it will be before the Euros start charging for their players? Want to win in college its going to cost you. Want to win as a pro team its going to cost you. Now that the veil is gone college wont be able to hide. behind "amateurism" anymore.
This an argument for college players having to pay to play college, like everyone except a few dozen going the club route. Only way schools will keep teams in many cases. Pro teams don't pay in the U.S. for U.S. players and they hardly pay the players. The only money is soccer is from parents and players, it isn't from tv contracts or attendance or concessions.
Wow this response was from deeeep left field.
