I live in a majority Black neighborhood and had a white guy canvasing door to door on my street encouraging people to support marriage equality and he didn't understand the negative reaction he was getting from my neighbors when he made the Civil Rights comparison.[/quote]

I wouldn't understand the negative reaction either. Please explain it to me. It seems like both cases are people who are treated without dignity because of who they are. Sure, gays can "pass" as straight. Do you think that is the solution? What would you think if someone thought "passing" was the right solution for a light-skinned black person?[/quote]

Agree with last PP.  Moreover, in countries like Iran and elsewhere where homosexuality is a capital offense, there are homosexuals.  They are repressed and closeted, but they certainly exist.  Homosexuality is increasingly understood as a natural sexual orientation.  Sure, there are some people who "choose" to engage in homosexual behavior. But as most homosexuals will tell you, they were attracted to the same sex from the very beginning of their sexual awareness - it was not a choice.  I think the comparison to the black civil rights movement is right on point and that it's a civil rights issue.[/quote]
