Anonymous wrote: And the developers and corporate lobbyists who have endorsed McDuffie are the voice of the people??? Please don’t make me laugh so hard! Greater Great Washington endorsed Janeese, very firmly.
those people are nuts. They are the ones espousing closing 18th Street in Adams Morgan because they somehow think it will greater this viable "streetery" paradise. But pedestrian malls/street closures only work in very, very limited circumstances where the neighborhood is almost exclusively high income, there is ample delivery access for businesses from the rear of buildings, and there is ample policing and enforcement of vagrancy and loitering laws. Otherwise you are just creating a pleasant environment for the indigent and drug-addicted to shoot up, pass out, and accost pedestrians. Even affluent college towns like Burlington, Boulder or Charlottesville experience this problems. Adams Morgan would quickly become a nightmare. So if this is Janeese and GGW's vision of city vibrancy, no thank you. I trust Tony Williams---who actually DID create urban vibrancy in U Street and H Street--- regarding who is the best mayoral candidate to continue his legacy of realistic city management.
