Thoughts on direction of Boys u10 - u13 programs at Loudoun? Is the soccer actually any good or different from other nearby programs like VRSC?
I am biased with a son in that age group. The top (2?) teams are competitive in most age groups and getting better. The group does have strong coaches with DP, KL and FA all being very different but very effective. Losing SM to the younger academy kids hurt because he is fantastic for this age group too. The rising u12s are way more talented than their VPSL record and have done quite well in high level tournaments. They’ve recently added 1 or 2 kids from Revolution whose team is struggling in EDP at that age group. The rising u11s are also very talented and playing up an age group in 2nd division of NCSL and doing well. Those two teams have been together a long time with very little turnover but some new talent added each year (1 maybe 2 kids) to address holes in the roster. Too soon to tell for rising u10. FA is a good coach and there is talent there. Sometimes his coaching style is better for older kids so I expect them to get better as they mature. New group just finishing their first year but solid. Getting the same coach 2 years in a row does help because each has a different style approach and I’ve not seen a true “club philosophy” but consistency helps. They also actively promote players up to guest play and have seen kids fleet up to top team from 3rd team. All that being said - if you aren’t on one of the top two teams - you won’t get the same level of coaching or commitment. But that’s every large club.
