I was born a few years before MMR was available and I had both types of measles as did every kid in the neighborhood and none of us were hospitalized or died. Modern medicine is light years above 1970 so why are kids dying from it in 2025?
Do you have a doctor you trust? You really should go talk to them about this.
Why? I have lifetime immunity and my children were vaccinated.
Do you want measles to be out of control when your future grandkids are in utero and newborn? But, PP's point is that if you want to understand why people still die from measles, you should ask a trusted doctor. In short though, you and your friends didn't die or become hospitalized or suffer long term disabilities from it (as far as you know), but others did. And the same will be true today. No matter how far after-the-fact medical treatment comes, people still die and become disabled from medical causes (obviously). When that cause is preventable, we should prevent it. The more contagious (will infect many) and/or the more deadly (will be devastating to any even if only a few get it) something is, the more focus we should place on prevention.
