My dd at uva said it looks like tri sig got six pledges, which is better than last year at least. I hope some girls COB and get them back to a decent size.
It was like 3-4. Honestly, I put those girls up. It takes a lot more courage and independence to join a sorority like that than follow the herd to some cookie cutter top tier house.
It takes the most courage and independence of all to not bother going greek in the first place. DP
Dp, in your opinion! These girls decided they wanted a community and good for them! If you’re so proud of not being Greek why do you have to put those down who wanted to? Might be time to look inward.
I think the point is that community can be found anywhere on campus - clubs, organizations, dorms, classes. Why pay thousands of dollars to join a sorority? It just boggles the mind.
Exactly! I always viewed it as "pay to play". When I was in college, sorority and frat rush started during "new student week" so kids had literally only been on campus for 2-3 days and never attended a class, yet they were paying a fee and trying to find their group. I think it should never happen fall of freshman year. Kids should be encouraged to attend classes, join clubs, meet people and forge their own friendships first. Then in the spring, allow rush to proceed. Once kids are established on campus. I watched too many girls who had just met people and started to form friendships in the first 2-3 days on campus, then be forced to go on their own as their "new friends" were matched to different sororities. I think it's better to allow people to make their own friends first, then do rush in Jan/Feb
