Shelves are emptying and panic buying driving up prices https://nypost.com/2024/10/03/business/shoppers-panic-buying-as-us-ports-strike-sparks-empty-shelves-and-rising-prices-on-groceries-essentials/ Uhhhggg!!!
People were panic buying for no reason. And...any empty shelves currently are not because of this (now suspended) strike.
People were “panic buying” because of the hurricane aftermath, either because they needed supplies or were buying to donate. My parents live 3 hours East of Asheville. They went to Costco to buy water, toilet paper, etc for hurricane relief and found empty shelves in these areas— and a huge line of people paying for these things and dropping them at the tractor-trailer headed to WNC in Costco’s parking lot. You really think we import most of our gas, water and toilet paper?
