I’m reading Nancy Pelosi’s memoir (btw, so disappointing so far, I was hoping for details about her upbringing and early political career and all it is 1/4 way through is a recap of old news articles). Anyway, I am at the point t where he is discussion 9/11 and how the attack was so unexpected (despite the July report, despite the fact that the Guardian in 1999 had a 2 - page spread about Bin. Laden and his intentions). I remember how after 9/11 I thought of several ways the US was extremely vulnerable to more attacks (I don’t want to highlight here to give anyone ideas!) those remain vulnerabilities. I hope people realize that the Muslim hate incidents and continued funding to Israelto kill more people leaves us very vulnerable here at home! This is not just a conflict on foreign shores. It can very easily come here and harm us.
Um, obviously. But the reality is that even if we cut off Israel completely, Muslim extremists would still still hate America. Why? They hate all westerners and our western ways. ICYMI: anyone bananas enough to kill in the name of religion hates all of us normal people. They basically only accept those who adhere to their special breed of religious fanaticism. Moreover, they don’t need to sneak into the country because some of them are already here.
Sure, but don't you see that by killing /maiming non religious extremists (which certainly did happen with the pager/walkie talky strikes) we are now moving the non extremists closer to the extremist view that America is a horrible country? People in Lebanon have already experienced great trauma during their civil war - it doesn't take much to trigger them. And as long as the prevalent American attitude is the collateral damage is a-ok (or in fact let's blame it on the victims for being born and living in Lebanon/Gaza) our callousness and lack of heart is not quelling the hatred.
