I think FPYC has ten times as many teams.
FPYC has 193. Valor has ... wow, this site is slow ... I count 125, but I might be off by 5 or 10. But Valor's numbers include a U8 division, and a LOT of their teams are from the same clubs -- especially SYA and CYA but also Herndon, Loudoun, BAC. No one's arguing this point, though. FPYC is objectively bigger.
I'm surprised BAC switched. They usually have a well run rec program. Wonder what Valor's sales pitch was.
Some clubs are split between the two. Valor has SYA (duh), CYA (duh), BAC, DCWA, FC Dulles (!!?), Fredericksburg FC, Herndon, JCYSL, Loudoun, LMVSC, NVSC, PWSI, Sterling, TSJFC, Universal FC, and VSA. FPYC has FPYC (duh - 26 teams), ABGC (17 teams), Alexandria (1), BRYC (21), BAC (1), Fredericksburg FC (12), GFR (15), Gunston (4), Herndon (14), LMVSC (4), McLean (5), NPSC (2), NVSC (3), PWSI (7), SCAA (1), Soccer on the Hill (12), Sterling (11), SYC (29), VSA (4) and Vienna (4). So a few overlaps -- BAC, Fredericksburg, Herndon, LMVSC and VSA. Is there yet another tournament somewhere? I'm surprised McLean only has five and Alexandria only has one. Not surprised that Vienna only has four.
Spring All Stars is a lot less popular than Fall All Stars. Look at how many teams play in the Herndon tournament! Mostly because it is into summer vacation time, a holiday weekend, and hot as hell.
One of the coldest days of my life was spent on the sideline at a Herndon game, but yeah, point taken.
Was it two years ago? It was ridiculous.
More like 10, but yeah, that weekend is often the first really cold one of the year. And if you're out there at 8 a.m., it's brutal.
I remember one year at the Herndon All-star tournament ... I'm going to guess it was 6 years ago...it was BEAUTIFUL weather...then all of a sudden this cold front came through., high winds, and I bet it dropped 25 degress in less than an hour. So many kids and parents caught by surprised...freezing!!! Brutal.
The father's Day last year was disgusting hot whole the fall was disgusting cold. Funny how it works out.
