Anonymous wrote: And 99% of the screaming about NPR! the economy! schools! laptop! sports! are non-local, loud-mouthed MAGAs trying to stir the sheet before the election. This is not true, but I suspect that the leadership and employees of NPR feel this way, which is why NPR has lost its way.
+1. I'm really lefty and I vote that way. NPR lost me and apparently others in this thread who are just like me. But keep telling yourself we're all MAGAs and there's no problem.
Yep. Just dismiss everyone who disagrees as MAGA/bots/whatever. I’m a card-carrying bleeding heart liberal, believe it or not, and NPR is no longer for me. If you like it, great! Keep listening! But you’re behaving like tinfoil weirdos when you can’t acknowledge that others might disagree.
You and your buddy misread my comment. There are mostly Ds on DCUM, as the PP said, but there is definitely a small contingent of prolific MAGAs who are constantly starting threads to scream about various “issues”. Some are local but many aren’t. And, right on schedule, their hysterics build before big elections. I’m sure you’ve both seen this.
I’m the first lefty pp of the two of us, and of course we’ve seen the MAGA press try to generate hysteria around various issues. You’re still deliberately missing the point. I want unbiased news, and lots of it, and not lots of finger-wagging from any ideological side. I moved to another left-of-center media outlet that gives me that. When are you going to get your head out of the sand that NPR’s problems are not all created by Russian MAGA bots but are largely self-inflicted?
I never claimed any of that. Just commenting on DCUM’s MAGA problem.
PP here. Then what exactly is your point? You never said OP is a MAGA, but maybe you want to imply that... OP *might* be a MAGA? Or maybe you want to imply that all the people who agree with OP are MAGAs? Surely you can count the number of posters who have identified as lefty or progressive who said they agree with OP, whoever s/he is. The point still stands: you've got your head in the sand about how your natural audience is diminishing, and why that is.
The earlier parts of the conversation were cut out at some point - not sure why - so you're taking it all out of context and misinterpreting what was actually said. Here was what preceded my comment: PP1: "I would not say there is nothing wrong, but there are a lot of posters on here exaggerating about the number of stories about people from marginalized groups. I listen regularly and the number of grievance stories is way down from what it was 2-3 years ago. If they are saying it's all the time, they either haven't listened lately or they aren't really paying attention." ME: "+1 Not too surprising given that Republicans are known for their fabricated hysterics." PP2: "This site is mostly frequented by Democrats." ME: "And 99% of the screaming about NPR! the economy! schools! laptop! sports! are non-local, loud-mouthed MAGAs trying to stir the sheet before the election." 1. I never said there isn't anything wrong at NPR. 2. I agreed with PP1 that many posters were exaggerating about the number of stories & they probably haven't listened lately. 3. I commented on how Republicans on DCUM tend to fabricate hysterics, especially during election years. 4. I never said everyone who doesn't like NPR or exaggerates about the number of "woke" stories is MAGA. 5. I never said OP was MAGA. 6. I never said Russian bots were causing NPR problems. Why are you baselessly fabricating all of these opinions for me?
So you DID claim that 99% of complaints about NPR (and other topics) are from MAGAs trying to manipulate us before the election. Exactly what we thought we read. Thanks for clearing that up. 99%, really? There's no room for the many self-identified progressives and moderates on this thread who are exasperated with NPR, because there's only a 1% chance we're not MAGAs in drag?
