I wanted to set the record straight on the ATVs and dirt bikes because I’ve seen many say things like what’s the harm, they zoom by and gone in 30 seconds. That’s not the case at all. Where we live in downtown DC it’s Thu-Sun, whole night, every night up and down the street. It’s the noise mostly, but also that you can’t drive out or even walk in the sidewalk safely. The noise starts at dusk and typically dies down by 5am. It consists of motocross type noise which double-pane windows can’t block. We also have soundproof heavy inserts, still can’t sleep. Our children can’t sleep, neighbors’ children can’t sleep. In addition, some have loudspeakers mounted at deafening volumes and will park in front to be seen and heard for as long as possible. Finally, the tricks. Jumping a scooter up and down the street is extremely loud, it sounds like an explosion after explosion, or like when a plane touches the piste. It’s a very loud and impactful thump, thump, thump. It shakes the houses, windows, things fall off the walls and shelves. Now imagine 20-30 people engaging in this illegally 4 nights out of 7 all at the same time. The next morning, you have to get the kids up for school, go to work, church etc. — I’ve noticed attention slipping, schoolwork slipping. Noise and sleep deprivation are recognized forms of terror and torture. Add to that a loss of dignity because it’s clear that as a tax paying, law abiding, DC-loving resident, you don’t matter. You rate well below a likely MD resident engaging in an illegal, dangerous and unnecessary activity. If you are driving you are advised to not cut them off and never show annoyance because some have guns and won’t hesitate to shoot. And that’s is a fact. There is no reason this is persisting. There can be a park or area away from residences to ride. We can get back to our lives instead of living like this which is not sustainable. For health and life reasons, this issue has skyrocketed to the top of my concerns, and will feature heavily in how we vote.
It is amazing that Nadeau and some of these wacky ANC Commissioners are completely OK with this
