Asian American who fled Ukraine interviewed African students who also fled. They claim they don't think their experience was due to racism.
Well, someone had better notify the UN, various European, African, and Indian subcontinent governments, CNN, Al Jazeera, BBC, NPR, and other reputable news outlets that confirmed Africans, Indians, and Middle Eastern people were being targeted and prevented from exiting Ukraine. Apparently, they have it all wrong, but this Youtuber has discovered The Truth.
I am not doubting that there was racism at all, not even a bit. I don't know what the situation is on the ground. I will just gently note that very few news agencies have real people with boots on the ground to do in-person newsgathering. A lot of modern-day news has a single/few sources and is amplified when seemingly reputable agencies start quoting each other, making it seem as if the story has been corroborated through multiple diverse sources. The need to put up a headline and copy drives news agencies to do this because they don't want to look like they are behind the curve. This is what primarily gives rise to fake news stories - stories that turn out to be untrue as additional information is gathered. Again, I am not doubting that there was racism in Ukraine.
+1 Most of the news is terrible now and they just echo each other. The UN condemned racism and are taking reports from people who felt they were being treated poorly due to their race but are not actively investigating the reports. If there was a massive racism problem in Ukraine with specific groups there would not be so many Indian (20k) and African (19k) students studying there because they just wouldn't admit them to their universities.
It's been bus and train capacity issues. They've evacuated hundreds of thousands from Ukraine. You can only fit so many people onto a bus or train. They've evacuated thousands and thousands of non-whites from Ukraine. Can you find people who think there was racism? Yes, I'm quite sure you can, and some reporters did. But out of the thousands and thousands who got safe passage those stories only represent a handful of instances, a very tiny percentage. This is a non-story to me, compared to Russians indiscriminately shelling apartment buildings or shooting families with children on the street in Ukraine. That is the real humanitarian issue, not people who got safe passage out of Ukraine.
