CNN Medical “Expert” Dr Lena Wen says “the science has changed” and the Federal government should no longer be requiring masks mandates.
The phrase “changing science” is why ordinary thinking people have started to become skeptical of science. Science is supposed to be fact. If something isn’t based on facts, then it’s not science. Saying “it’s the best science we have at the time” is pathetic. Science is binary. Something either is, or it isn’t. It doesn’t change. Anything that doesn’t fit into those two boxes isn’t science. The greatest tragedy of this entire stupid pandemic is the damage done to the credibility and reputation of ACTUAL science. There’s now at least a couple generations who will forever be skeptical of “the science” because of idiots like that.
If you don't understand that science always changes just tells everyone that you don't understand science. Science is open to new evidence, some things change faster than others. How many weather reports over the years have missed the mark yet were generally accurate? I mean, sorry they said 5 inches of snow and only 3 fell but atmospheric changes happen. Anyone who understands science also understands that science never speaks in terms of facts but in degrees of certainty. As new information is learned those certainties can change. But above all, science is a PROCESS and a process that welcomes scrutiny. That scrutiny, over time can alter or outright change previous held conclusions. And this is the problem people have had with right wing, ignorant outrage. Yes, scientific concessions changed on masks as we learned new information. Cloth masks seemed generally fine UNTIL new variants proved to be more contagious and required a more sophisticated barrier than a simple cloth mask. But, cloth masks proved cheap and pretty effective for the first year until Delta. The virus mutated and so we had to adjust as a result. That doesn't mean the science was wrong, the variables changed. I'm sorry simple people cannot grasp that. But here we are.
