Here’s what I don’t get : the burner phone. The kid grabbed his dad’s secret burner phone, texted Erin, and told her to meet at the park. Why didn’t the police see this text? WTH? They should have been able to trace it.
I came here to post this. I'm confused by this too. And if Erin texted to John's primary phone via her burner, why was it programmed as Erin? Why not program it as "Dentist" or some other alias? I also don't get why she is ok planting drugs on her grandson's mother but is not ok letting the killer off the hook. The character's motivations aren't consistent. She sometimes lets people off the hook and sometimes doesn't. The number of red herrings was also a bit too much. But I love Kate Winslet so I still like the series.
John said that Erin called him on his regular phone that night (presumably from her burner), and that upset him. Ryan’s flashback to the party jibes with that. When Ryan later texted her from John’s phone, posing as John, she had just texted him, presumably from her actual phone, 5 minutes prior. She was escalating and pressuring John to meet her at the park by starting to communicate via their actual phones. She was trying to show him that she would be good on her word to out their affair if he didn’t do what she wanted.
But if it was from Erin's actual phone, wouldn't the cops have seen the random late texts and calls from her personal cell (via phone records) and tried to track the mystery number/burner phone? There was no discussion of that...
There was actually a great deal of mentions of tracking her cell records immediately after the murder. Mare talked about how long the cell company might delay, etc. I believe that is how they found out that the priest was her last call. Which is why it makes even less sense...
Yes I know. No mention of that; "that" = calls and text to a John's burner phone. With all the phone record discussion, there was no mention of a mystery burner phone in the records. Which goes back to my previous points that it's a plothole.
The only mistake was they never showed either burner being hidden or destroyed.
John and Billy would have taken it when they moved the body
