I don't think it's reasonable personally unless the B team is short on players or a specific position like goalie. I think every child should play at least half a game until at least U14 or probably in all youth soccer except for the very top teams.
I'm only familiar with 3-4 clubs around here due to DD having friends in some of them and only one does this regularly and the kids and parents HATE it. The development director who is new has been called out by it I heard and for not giving players very unequal playing time at the young ages. So I think it's not common practice, not unheard of though, and does not make for happy customers.[/quote]
