Because the judge already indicated he’s not inclined to grant it. Gottlieb asked about it at the last hearing and the judge was skeptical and said the case was not dismissed on the basis of 47.1. I read it as a face saving concession to Blake for dismissing her claims with prejudice and with no money exchanging hands. So now she can say she’s still fighting the good fight. But actually she’s only dragging this out until another bad PR day when the judge denies it.[/quote]

Wait, what? That doesn't make sense. Like neither the question Gottlieb asked (did he really ask that? is there a transcript of the hearing?) nor Liman's response.

But I would guess we'll know sooner rather than later whether the 47.1 motion succeeds and what damages are. With the settlement and cancellation of the trial, this frees up Liman's time and gives him an incentive for issuing this final decision and ending a big part of the circus in his court (the case between Abel and Jones will continue so it's not totally over but that case gets a lot less scrutiny and media attention because while it's celebrity-adjacent, the main parties are not celebs.[/quote]
