The prior poster said a person would get their ass kicked on the so called hood for dressing middle class( whatever that is) And I was punting out how asinine a statement that was. People watch a lot of TV and know 5 people that are black/brown/poor and they think they are a social anthropologist, not realizing they are just spectacularly stupid!
DP here. Yeah, you're right, pp. It's absurd to think you would get your ass kicked in the "hood" for wearing a suit.
You're right. I should've said "preppy" not "yuppie". Like below. You're gonna tell me that a black dude living in a crime ridden black neighborhood wouldn't get beat up for dressing this way? yea..right.
Uh, you do know, don't you that khaki pants are typical school uniform pants in the city? I see kids in khaki pants all the time. I just don't think this kid would get beat up in my neighborhood -- and I'm talking the whole picture, the white guy with a sweater over his shoulders. You do know, don't you, that young people aren't spending all their time "kicking ass," right? I'm sure it happens (and I condemn it when it does) but lots of people just go on about their business in my neighborhood without ever getting their ass kicked or kicking someone else's.
