Trump using the old reliable of immigration to distract you from the fact prices are high and unaffordable
Yes, it's an "old reliable" but, as usual, Trump has sort of missed the plot. Nativist rhetoric usually works when the issue is high unemployment -- push out the immigrants and you'll create jobs for native-borns. But it's the reverse when the issue is affordability/inflation. Do you think healthcare is going to be cheaper when we deport or scare off all the nurses and CNAs and pharmacists that are largely foreign-born? Or that food is going to be cheaper when we scare off all the immigrants that are working in our fields, manufacturing plants, and slaughterhouses? Or what about the price of leisure travel and restaurant dining after we deport/scare off all the people clean the hotel rooms, wash the dishes and sheets, and prep the food at restaurants. Prices will definitely go up due to labor shortages. That's really, really basic economics. Is anyone around here old enough to remember the 1970s? That period had some of the lowest immigration rates (1970 had a record low of foreign-born Americans), and stuff was CRAZY expensive. My dad had a good job and we lived like poor people do now. Hotels were only for rich people, and we only went out to dinner maybe for a birthday.
