I was a MCPS student back when we had those storms in 1993 and 1996. I remember they extended the school day by about 20 - 30 minutes instead of making up so many days. If we get more snow I think MCPS should consider doing it again. Once you get around June 10th absolutely nobody wants to be in school.
The issue with that is HS and MS classes get extended by a meaningless 3 minutes per class and the elementary school kids lose their minds sitting in school for an extra 20-30 minutes. It's really not a good use of time at all. Also, Teacher contracts state a certain work day. Each teacher would be required to be paid for that extra 20-30 minutes unless you wanted to risk violating union contracts. Also, paraeducators have very specific and rigid time allotments so you'd be adding extra time that has zero special education support which is against the law.
