It was/is the USYS with state cups, regionals and a national championship. Its national league still has promotion/relegation. But guess what, all the biggest clubs eventually wanted their own closed national leagues where they had guaranteed access to the top of the pyramid. Now those are still hungry, building out their own ecosystems. [/quote]
