There’s a message here for us.  There’s a reason people don’t believe what we say.  It’s that we lie, mostly to ourselves. We insist that middle and working class Republicans are “voting against their own interests” because we imagine ourselves to be the party of compassion and competence.  But income inequality has never once decreased under Democrats in our lifetimes.  We deny that we’re the party more favorably disposed toward illegal immigration.  Is that credible?  We deny that we are the party of LGBTQIA+ indoctrination in schools.  Is that credible?  We have to be honest with ourselves.  If we can’t even do that, we shouldn’t be surprised that voters don’t believe us.[/quote]
