I hadn't heard of Anora before last night. I watched it today. I was expecting something far more graphic based on the comments. I thought the whole thing was pretty meh and wasn't that impressed with the actress.
DCUM is very conservative. Not politically, but socially a ton of hall monitor types who are quick to clutch their pearls.
NP and I really don’t care about nudity in movies. But the Oscars are constantly rewarding women for playing sex workers. It’s like they think they are so liberal but it is the opposite.
I think a lot of people mistake "going all out" with quality acting. MM screaming her head off for two hours isn't "raw", it's just loud.
Yes! Not all acting is screaming and crying.
I think other actors like this stuff and vote for it. I've noticed this in the past. Maybe it's physically hard to do or something else only actors would know? Like Dustin Hoffman in Rain Man. It's all-out all the time. I also think stories about prostitutes get more notice in Hollywood than horror does. The fact that The Substance got so many nominations was surprising because horror rarely does well.
