From Leigh Anne's webpage "Your new new e-book, Making It Happen, is out just in time for National Adoption Awareness Month. What inspired you to write it? I wanted everyone to realize that yes—adopting a 6′ 6″ 350 pound African-American young man is a wonderful thing. [Her adopted son is Michael Oher, formerly a homeless teen, who is currently left tackle for the Baltimore Ravens.] If you have the resources and ability to do that, you should. There are 400,000-plus kids in foster care waiting to be adopted. But there are other things you can do as well to make a difference. My new book tells you how you can be a giver. It talks about really turning around and realizing that the view behind you is a whole lot different from the view in front of you."
Wow, shameless liar!!
pretty gross. I don’t know exactly who is right here, but what does seem clear is the relationship has been broken for a long time but Leigh Ann is still profiting off her white savior self-mythology.
She’s not making money off these ebooks. She thinks she’s doing Gods work advocating for foster care and adoption. Probably she likes the attention and how she sees herself, I guess Michael is not great proof of that now! I don’t blame him for not wanting to be part of her evangelism, with all the tricky ethical issues of adoption that she completely glosses over. If that’s all he was asking for then I’d support it, although technically it’s her story too, he can make the case he’s more famous and needs to protect his brand from her. But it’s pretty clear he’s really after their money, and he’s not entitled to that because it’s from their businesses not his story/career.
