In the cumulative it is helpful. When the google search suggests you need above a 4.0 to get in (which is what a huge number of colleges claim), but your school doesn't give many 4.0s, it is helpful to see that that same college never rejected anyone from your school from a 3.3 and up, with lots of dots populating the grid. Yes, there are other factors that matter, but as a starting point, it helps you know whether you are on the playing field or not. Similarly if you have a 3.5 and see that a school has only accepted 4.0s from your school with lots of populated dots and many Xs, or that the school never accepts even your school's 4.0s, then you know this school is more than a reach. You still may give it a shot, but you know you need to be bringing something spectacular to do the unprecedented.[/quote]
