I would say that VYS, MD united and Frederick would compete with any of the 4-10 list. Vys posses the ball well, Frederick defends well and MD united has good athletes that can score. MD United is better than how they have started out this year. The lower competition that VYS and Frederick face will begin to take its toll. They will slowly lose players to GA and ECNL, even if it is just one or two that is enough considering their level of competition. There may be some unique circumstances as to why those teams have stuck together so long but it is only a matter of time before their players get poached.
I agree that its any given day with all of these teams below your #1-3 or so. This comment drives home the point as to why this is relevant though. Is it really the case that a VYS or Frederick player, for example, is going to migrate to ECNL or GA over the next few years? If some of these ECNL or GA teams really start to differentiate themselves, then the move could be worth it under certain circumstances. Talent around the DMV is very spread out though, travel schedules for ECNL and GA can be brutal, and if players haven't moved yet I don't think it's a foregone conclusion that they will. If team B can hang with team A and even win 35-40 percent of the time, is a move worth it? What if they can win 50 percent of the time?

It comes down to the goals of the players. Regardless of how good we may think those teams are within our region if any kid wants to play in college they will simply not get teh needed exposure on those teams. So if kids stay a couple of things may be happening: 1. They really have no desire to play in college and the team and league simply fit their lifestyle best. Terrific if this is the case. 2. They do have an interest in playing in college and their club coaches are blowing rainbows up their a$$ with exaggerations about how they can get them to college. These coaches also probably tell them that State Cup is still prestigious.
