Heard from a friend whose kid had 36 ACT and 1580 SAT was deferred EA from FCPS HS. My kid said the only ones she knows who got in EA we’re taking multi-variable calculus.
TJ maybe. Any places, hard to believe.
No, All competitive publics offer multi calculus. If offered and not taken, then the counselor won’t check off the “most rigorous “ box.
Are you sure about that? No one needs MV in high school, and most don't even need it in college. Math isn't the only rigorous track in high school. You are suggesting that a humanities student could never get the check, and that just isn't true.
+1 It’s funny how STEM people are just positive that higher level STEM classes are the only way to show advanced work. My kids’ strength is in the Humanities. Both have taken 5+ yrs. of foreign language and all AP English and history.
True, the one thing that Dean J often stresses though is that she likes to see a diversity of AP taken, so not all science, or all math, or all english. My kid took 9 APs (5 senior year), but only 2 were in STEM classes (AP Bio and AP Calc AB). He's been taking AP history or gov since he could and taken all the highest english classes. He is also taking AP Spanish. This is not a STEM major, and it was enough to get him into UVA without it being THE most rigorous he could take with regard to Math and Science. He did take a DE Pre-Calc last year, not sure how that is counted. He will be an international relations major.
