In VA ECNL Regional League is different from the ECNL2 league in the Northeast-the regional leagues in VA don’t play same clubs as ECNL 2 in Northeast.
Then what is all the talk of ECNL 2 or a 2nd team with VA ECNL clubs. Someone mentioned BRYC, how are they doing ECNL 2 and rosters of 30. Is VDA going to follow that?
At BRYC they switch some players every week for games. Best players play just like in college. No one knows what VDA will do because the administration has not yet put it out on the table for everyone. I for one appreciate that, It means there for once is no whistleblower trying to pretend he knows everything spreading gossip around. It means they have people in charge that are making the decisions based on how they want to run their organization, which means that they have control over how they want things to happen and that shows me that VDA as an organization is becoming more professional. Everyone just needs to wait and see and if you don’t like how the club is moving forward then you can make the decision to go elsewhere. Again why is everyone coming on this forum for questions to be answered? Just call the club if you can’t wait.
Yes BRYC has a group of girls that play every weekend. They don't even need to ask. They are starters every week and will be rostered. Then there are some that almost never play ECNL games. They may get to dress out occasionally but get minimal in any minutes. They are there for the training and the hopes of moving up the ladder. And then there is the group in the middle which is where all the drama happens. These are the girls fighting to be on the roster week after week. This is the BRYC way. They need the $$$ of extra players to keep the ship afloat. Advice to VDA parents - I would not commit to a club that is doing a 30 girl "composite" roster without knowing exactly what you should expect. And be prepared that they may lie to you in order to get your kid. So watch with eyes wide open when you are observing the teams. Do the coaches have "favorites" that are likely to be playing even though they may not be the strongest? Are a bunch of girls better than your DD? Are you going to be happy if they end up being primarily a "practice player". I wish teams would not roster this many girls. They say they need to because of injuries but there really is no need to have 19 extra girls on a team. I think 20 at the younger ages and 22 at the older ages is plenty IMO. SO ask questions... if BRYC players are coming to VDA next year they may switch to giant rosters as a way to keep VDA players and also accept the BRYC ones wanting to follow.
Thank you for your insights. That's good advice for parents contemplating joining a roster like that. That's how it will play out.
