I thought last night's episode was vastly superior to the Kevin and Kate-centric episodes. The parallels between Randall deciding to have Deja go back to her mom and his own situation with Rebecca were so well executed. Definitely not a mother-like-son moment. And I enjoyed having William back, however fleeting, especially those scenes about how it could have been when Randall was young. And, yes, I noticed how tall Tess was, too!
Actually, I don't think Randall was putting himself in his mother's shoes and making a different choice. I think he was putting himself in William's shoes and following his example. He saw that Deja had a loving parent and full life, and it wasn't his place to insert himself into it. This is the same conclusion William drew when he saw young Randall's home and bicycle.
Exactly. The whole episode was beautifully laid out to show that parallel. Also, while I understand Randall and Beth being upset with Deja's mother, I thought they were downright rude to her. I felt really bad for Deja's mom, tbh, and was glad they made the decision not to fight her for custody.
I completely disagree. The mom knows the drill - she cannot randomly show up at their house and she certainly shouldn’t get in Beth’s face like that. I agree with them, that isn’t a good situation for Deja and they were just being protective of her. I totally agreed with Randall when he said “she has food in her fridge so that makes it all better”. I’m glad they didn’t try to keep her though - that would have ruined his relationship with Deja. Also I agree with whoever posted before - he was paralleling William, not his mom.
Sure, she can't just show up and get in their faces - that was wrong. However, putting myself in the mom's shoes, I would be desperate to get my own child back if s/he was living in a foster home. So I understand her desperation completely. She just wanted her daughter.
