"2. Landon - despite the graduation of a strong 2024 class, the Bears have plenty of players returning in their 2025 class to defend their title. Landon had the best JV in the DMV, expect to see some 2027's emerge. As always, the Bears are extremely well-coached and it showed this Spring." "Best in the DMV" - debatable. SJC's JV went undefeated and had wins over Boy's Latin, Calvert Hall, St. Mary's and Severn.
If SJC's JV team was so elite, how do you explain Speaks and Ince contacting several Landon (2027s) who didn't make the Bears varsity this Spring and trying to lure them to transfer to Military Road for their sophomore season? This is a classless act by Speaks and shows a lack of respect for the current players in the SJC program.
Doesn't seem hard to explain: wanting to add more good players. Landon itself has plenty of kids who transfered in after freshmen or even sophomore seasons elsewhere, including from IAC rival Prep. There is more between high school movement than ever before, a trend that will continue. The issue of how coaches approach it is separate, but all the strong schools would happily add good players after high school has begun.
And that’s why sjc can’t schedule games and ends up with 14 regular season games.
Agree. Unfortunately, Speaks has burned a lot of bridges with area coaches.
Speaks doesn’t care about his relationships with other coaches in the area. He cares about his St. John’s players.
He cares about both. Very good friends with many of them. This narrative is lame.
SJC Booster - you have a false narrative. Speaks is not well-liked by many coaches in the IAC and the MIAA. There is a reason why SJC struggles to land games with teams both leagues. Save the nonsense that teams are afraid to play the Cadets, the 20222 season ended 24 months ago.
