Jen: “You guys know how annoying it is to fly with fat people?! I LOVE IT! I’m so tiny and ADORABLE, I want to sit directly next to them and let those fat pieces of sh**warm me up! Aren’t I hilarious?! But seriously, guys. I’m such a good person, those enormous, meaty, bulky, clearly unhealthy, poor souls are worthy too! Even when they try to move away from me. I’m like, ‘Get back over here, Fatty! I’m SAVING YOU from embarrassment.’ I’m so funny, y’all!” Jen’s corn-eater tribe: “I’m fat!!! Can I fly next to you everywhere you go?!” GROSS.
I think you nailed it, and her apology post is not much better. It has major "No, really, I LOVE Black people! I have Black friends!" vibes to it. Loving someone means that you open your ears and understand that the main harm was in talking about larger-bodied people in a way that made it seem like they should be grateful she doesn't treat them as bad as those other people who cringe and shy away when they are seated next to one. There are 1001 ways to make fun of the way planes have shrunk seat size and available space without ever bringing sizeable people into the conversation.
