Has anyone else heard that ECNL is expanding? I was told they will be admitting many teams this year from their RL league and essentially having an mlsn2 but not calling it that. Will still be ECNL but with relegation. Essentially they will have a top league and a bottom ECNL league as well as ECNL-RL.
This goes along with a rumor of a potential merger of USYS and US Club. Would this be considered a monopoly?
Not sure how that merger has anything to do with ECNL?
ECNL is the most powerful partner in US Club.
But how does their merger with US club have to do with ECNL adding a new ECNL2 essentially.
Because ECNL is in a big battle with MLSN/GA and if US Club took over USYS (the largest org), it might help them win that battle OR so overburden them that it helps MLSN/GA gain the upper hand.
It wont happen. Theres too many at the top of USYS and US Club that make their living off kids playing soccer. If they merged or were bought out some would be redundant and out of a job.
I’m guessing they would get a pretty nice buy out to approve the merger. But I have no real facts to back that up. Could you imagine US club and USYS each combining and over the next 5 years creating a true club/team relegation system. Seems ideal to me.
