It appears to be difficult to move the field more an one average car length closer to the slope without basically eliminating the sideline border around the field on the west side and/or cutting into the slope, resulting in the removal of large trees and increased erosion. For perspective, compare the footprint of Hearst Park with Sidwell's field and track across the street (which is not even a regulation sized track). It's just difficult to envision how DC fits a field, tennis courts, the upper slope playing area and a pool into this relatively limited space. Houses to the east of the park limit expansion in that direction -- unless of course, DC intends to build a 100-yard two or three lane lap pool alongside the field? :) [/quote]
