The Kennedy Center will probably partially reopen, and have some much-needed repairs concurrently. What's changed is that we can all patronize it again! Woohoo!
What are those? It had a pretty extensive renovation in the not too distant past.
Apparently the issues are all consequences of past water infiltration. I don't know how much was addressed by the prior reno, and how much remains to be done. But I've heard there's still significant steel corrosion, concrete deterioration (especially in the parking garage) and all electric systems need to be safeguarded (especially in the service tunnels). The design of the roof has been a perennial problem causing drainage issues on the marble beneath, but I don't know what can be done about that. This is why I think we can keep the Center open and making money, while closing off whatever needs to repaid, sequentially. Parking has always been a shitshow anyway.
