How big are Rosemont and Fields road? Wootton already has a pretty significant population so I imagine this would just be another situation of making a school overcrowded right from the get go which kind of defeats the entire purpose? Also, I hate that The middle schools don’t go to high school together-that is so backwards and I haven’t seen that in any other district I have lived in. You basically have to start over in High School.
500+ students for both fields road and crown from rosemont. It could grow to 1000 as there are still new housing development. It doesn’t work for capacity unless they move some Wootton ES out.
And this is why I keep saying they need to move out Dufief and parts of Travilah out. Fields Road belongs in Crown so to accommodate them something has to go out from Wootton.
And I keep saying A-D has Dufief at Crown, E-H has Dufief at Wootton, the county is saying no more official options, so will they just completely blindside Dufief and move them to QO? They probably would, but doing that is a complete violation of trust in the process.
Wasn't Dufief to QO at one point? Wouldnt really be a blindside right? Or did they replace QO with Crown?
Couple of the round 1 June options had them going to QO when they were doing all the crazy redistricting everywhere but MCPS has repeatedly said that strategy is off the table- and those options are off the table- now that the regional model is part of the boundary study. So yeah, you could say it isn't a complete blindside. Instead it would be an outright lie.
Strategies change based on other needs. Wootton going to Crown was never part of the plan then but then Wootton parents put up a big show with petitions flying around to save their children from an unsafe school. MCPS listened and now you have Option H. And Fields Road community is opposed to going elsewhere than their neighborhood school and who could blame them. MCPS has to listen to them too. Wootton parents got what they asked for with regards to a safe school. And if Dufief or Travilah has to move to accommodate Fields Road so be it. It makes logical sense that Fields Road goes to Crown, not Dufief or Travilah. You can thank the Wootton parents who circulated those petitions.
Yeap we definitely should thank those parents because Wootton is one of the oldest buildings and constantly pushed back and off of the CIP. If anyone should be mad at anyone, the anger should be directed towards the decision makers who allowed the maintenance to get pushed back to this extent. Then remember this when it comes time for elections which parties and groups to affiliate with.
You can't have it all. There will be unhappy parents no matter what they do. By moving Wootton to Crown and adding Fields Road, they just have a new set of walkers - the Fields Road ES cluster. And if they move Dufief or Travilah to QO, it should not matter since they will be be bussed a shorter distance now and that is a good thing right?
Not what those schools want, they don't mind the extra mile on the bus, but their feedback doesn't matter, right? Just everyone else's.
I'm sure they don't, but it does not work that way does it? MCPS has to consider all factors and decide what is best.
But that’s the point the Wootton families are trying to make-There are numerous high schools closer to Wootton neighborhoods than Crown so how does it make sense to move there? If you are using the distance as a factor the whole option H should be thrown out.
Yes I was initially on board with option H but now with all of the proposed changes it’s not the same option. I’m 100% for either holding school option, E or F. Still saves the county a ton of money versus A-D and we don’t have all of this chaotic change. G as a hybrid makes no sense. Administration would be impossible.
I'm 100% AGAINST the holding school option since it does not address Gaithersburg or QO's overcrowding issues. To me its just two options: 1) A new Crown and rezone all the schools in the vicinity (which means Dufief will move whether they like it or not) if they go wth A-D 2) Option H with Dufief or Travilah moving if Fields Road dos not back down I believe that Fields Road deserves to be in Crown no matter what school it is called.
Are A-D even being considered now? It seems they are predetermined on H
H won’t go through if Wootton families make enough noise. As much as the threads show a lot of support-the actual Wootton parents in real life are not in favor of it. Specifically Fallsmead-which is losing their walkable high school. There is a petition which has already received a considerable amount of signatures. Yes we are all aware that Wootton is falling apart but most parents think option H is worse. There are at least initial conversions happening what current Wootton families will do if H gets approved and one of those options is to protest by all on the same day/all at once -withdrawing all of our current Wootton kids to homeschool until MCPS comes to their senses.
You honestly don't even have to withdraw your students. You can just have them have a sick out and/or stop turning in notes for absences and have them all unexcused. You can even time the sickouts during the testing window. I was going to suggest this earlier on this issue and other issues I have with some of the proposals MCPS has. This includes just picking up and moving. But other then the moving (well slightly the case), the rest is just politics and using my kids as tools or pawns for my beliefs. Which isn't right. I'm not saying these recent speakers are the same case but I've seen cases where parents force their kids to speak at board meetings and the kids are crying up there. Like I said, realistically I won't have my kids skip school or purposely tank any tests over politics. But if you're really considering withdrawing your kids for home school, I think the absences would be more realistic and effective. There's usually no instruction during testing windows anyways.
Forgot to mention this should only be done for elementary and middle school students who are not taking any credit courses. High school students with more then five days of unexcused absences could face loss of credit. The absence policy is here: https://ww2.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/departments/policy/pdf/jeara.pdf
